A Nigerian-American man accused of killing three people in a shooting spree across Atlanta suburbs has been found dead in his jail cell while in custody, authorities have confirmed.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Olaolukitan Adon Abel, was discovered unresponsive at the DeKalb County Jail at about 6:48 p.m. ET, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. Detention staff immediately alerted medical personnel and initiated life-saving efforts, but he was pronounced dead at 7:17 p.m. ET.

Officials stated that there is currently no indication of foul play or criminal activity, though an internal investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death.

Abel had been in custody over allegations of a violent shooting spree that reportedly occurred on April 13 across multiple locations in the Atlanta area, during which three victims were killed.

Authorities allege he used a firearm obtained through a homeless man and carried out attacks at different points in the city within hours. The victims included Prianna Weathers, Tony Matthews, and Lauren Bullis, who all died either immediately or shortly after sustaining injuries.

According to reports, Weathers was shot outside a restaurant in DeKalb County, Matthews was attacked while sleeping outside a supermarket, and Bullis was allegedly shot and stabbed while walking her dog.

Abel, originally from the United Kingdom and later a naturalised U.S. citizen in 2022, was awaiting legal proceedings at the time of his death.

Officials have not released further details pending autopsy results and ongoing investigations.
