Tragedy in Ondo as woman dies while waiting for daughter writing UTME

A tragic incident unfolded on Monday at Ilara-Mokin Junction in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, where a woman identified as Oluwasola Victoria Adebayo reportedly collapsed and died while waiting for her daughter, who was sitting for the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Eyewitnesses said the woman had accompanied her daughter to the examination centre earlier in the day and was waiting nearby when she suddenly began to feel unwell. 

According to accounts from those present, she complained of weakness shortly before the situation took a fatal turn.

Moments later, she reportedly collapsed, causing panic among passersby and residents in the area who rushed to her aid.

Efforts were made immediately to revive her, but they proved unsuccessful, and she was confirmed dead at the scene.

At the time of the incident, her daughter was said to be inside the examination hall, unaware of the development as she continued writing her paper.

The incident drew a crowd of sympathisers, many of whom expressed shock and sadness over the sudden loss. 

A resident, who identified the deceased as “Mommy Ayo,” said she had earlier mentioned that she was at the location to support her daughter during the examination.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, described the development as unfortunate.

He stated that the family of the deceased had been contacted and that the remains were released to a relative, identified as Mr Apapa Olamilekan, who reportedly claimed to be her son.

The police also extended condolences to the bereaved family and urged members of the public to remain calm.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact cause of the woman’s sudden death has not been determined.
