Businessman assassinated after Ramadan prayers in Ondo State

Ore community in Ondo State was thrown into shock on Saturday, March 1, 2025, when  a prominent businessman, Ismaila Awoyinka, was assassinated by unidentified gunmen.

Awoyinka, a well-known dealer in building materials, was attacked at his residence located opposite Caring Heart Mega School in the Idi Mango area of Ore.

The assailants struck around 8:35 p.m., shortly after Awoyinka had returned from observing the Taraweeh prayer—a voluntary prayer performed during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers, dressed in white attire, arrived on a motorcycle and concealed themselves near Awoyinka’s residence.

As he was about to enter his home, they ambushed him, shooting him at close range. The gunshot wounds were fatal, leading to his immediate death at the scene.

The assassination has sent shockwaves through the Ore community. Residents and sympathizers have been gathering at the deceased’s residence to mourn his untimely death.

The Chairman of Odigbo Local Government Area, Taiwo Adegoroye, expressed profound shock over the incident and condemned the brutal killing, urging law enforcement agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the incident and initiated an investigation.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, stated that detectives have been deployed to Ore to apprehend those responsible for the assassination.

Community leaders are urging residents to remain vigilant, especially during evening hours, and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The tragic loss of Awoyinka, known for his contributions to the local economy and his philanthropic efforts, has left a void in the community that will be hard to fill.
