A dramatic rescue unfolded on the Third Mainland Bridge after a man reportedly jumped into the lagoon but was swiftly saved by a passing fisherman.
Eyewitnesses said the man had driven a Lexus SUV onto the bridge and parked by the roadside before climbing the railings to jump into the lagoon below.
A passing fisherman in a wooden boat saw him jumping into the water and paddled his boat to the spot to rescue him.
His two mobile phones and a power bank were reportedly left on the passenger seat of the vehicle.
In a video recorded by a towing vehicle operator, the fisherman is seen rowing the boat towards the shore while the rescued man sits with his two hands holding his head.
The towing van operator said he saw the man when he parked, and he went to make a turn to be on his side of the road to offer him his service in the erroneous belief that his car was malfunctioning.
By the time he got to the car, the man was already in the lagoon. The quick intervention of the fisherman is believed to have prevented what could have turned into a tragic incident.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the development or the identity of the man.
