The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a suspected kidnapper and rescued a victim in Isua Akoko, the administrative centre of Akoko South-East Local Government Area.
Sources revealed that the victim, whose name was not disclosed, was abducted by three assailants while on a farm. He reportedly regained his freedom after putting up resistance and injuring one of the suspects during a struggle.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, said the case had been transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit for detailed investigation.
Jimoh explained that the matter was first reported on April 10, 2026, when a resident, identified as Ahmadu, informed officers at the Isua Division that two young men had gone to Ipesi Akoko for cattle grazing, but only one returned.
He said the report prompted a swift, intelligence-led operation by the police, which resulted in the victim’s rescue.
According to him, the victim recounted that he was seized at night by three suspected kidnappers but managed to fight back, inflicting a head injury on one of them.
The police spokesman added that acting on the information provided, operatives traced and arrested a suspect at Obasanjo Motor Park, where he was found with a noticeable head wound.
Jimoh noted that the suspect confessed to involvement in the crime, while the victim positively identified him, citing the injury sustained during the encounter.
He added that the rescued victim had been taken to a medical facility for treatment, while the suspect remained in custody and would be prosecuted after investigations are concluded.
In a related development, residents of Imoga Community in Akoko Edo Local Government Area recently apprehended a suspected kidnap kingpin, Ismaila Ibrahim, after he was identified by one of his victims who had earlier escaped captivity.
Another suspect was also arrested following his confession.
