A nurse, Omaye Ugbede, who went viral two months ago for calling Lagos a smelly place has secured a job abroad and has just relocated after an X user helped.

The nurse had tweeted on Nov. 10, 2024, that Lagos was a smelly place.

She wrote: “This Lagos is a smelly city. People smell. The streets smell, and the gutters smell, the water smells, everything is smelly, I’m tired!”

Some Nigerians who claimed to be Lagos indigenes took offence and made trouble for her. Some tweeted at the state governor, telling him that a ‘’foreigner” who was given a job over indigenes was insulting the state.

One Bayo Bilisi wrote: “Dear @followlasg, This lady @nurse_ugbede that you have empowered over Aworis, Ijebus, Egbas, Ilajes and other Yorubas in Lagos has now spat over your face. You’re leaving the lives and economy of Lagos in the hands of people that haate their employers.

No private firm will ever accept this public ridicule from an employee she pays, we all know how it will end.

If @jidesawoolu and @mudashiru_obasa will not start demanding respect from people that are taking jobs away from aboriginals, we will also not stop adding external legal pressure until we get the desired respect.

Will it be too much to ask that this lady be asked to respectfully get a job from her saner state of origin or at best, her region???

Thank you,

BayoObidient Omo Jeje”

Some went as far as discovering the hospital where she works and they threatened to write to her bosses and make her lose her job.

@KushDeniyi wrote: How far Bayo which hospital she is working with? We can match there no yawa we gather they” (Sic)

Bayo responded with “Ibeju-Lekki”

Following the backlash, the nurse quickly apologized and deleted the post.

“I refer to my tweet of Sunda, 10/11/24 on “Smelly Lagos”.

I am very sorry over this act of mine. Lagos is a Great city, livable, land of opportunities with nice and friendly people.

Please accept my unreserved apology over my action which is highly regrettable.”

One X user who lives abroad reached out to her and told her his boss was interested in offering her a job.

The nurse has now taken to the same X to announce she was relocating.

She wrote: “I got the job guys.” She followed up with another tweet: “Just remembered that by this time last year, I was homeless, in Lagos! Squatting with friend and loaning money to raise rent.

One year later, got my big girl job and big girl pay.

I wondered when it would happen, but when it’s your turn, Gos will part the ocean!!”

The X user who contacted her about the job two months ago also congratulated her.

“Congratulations Nurse Omaye. Super happy for you” he wrote.
