Woman receives heat over insensitive statement she made about diminutive actor Nkubi, his wife, their child
She apologises
A businesswoman, Obianuju Benita Anekwe, has received severe backlash for the insensitive comment she made about the family of diminutive comic actor Victor Udochukwu Nwaogu, better known as Nkubi.
To mark the holiday season, Nkubi and his wife released lovely family photos, sharing their daughter with the public.
However, disgusting comments from trolls followed.
One particularly critical post came from a businesswoman, Obianuju Benita Anekwe. Most readers attacked her for her insensitivity. She first put up a defence but turned around today to apologise.
Anekwe wrote: “Nkubi’s wife tried not just by marrying him but also birthing a child. I personally can’t marry such a person for my kid’s sake. The anxiety that would come with the pregnancy based on the fact that the child might end up inheriting more of the Father’s genes won’t be funny.
“Forget, I am not sure there’s anyone that wouldn’t be bothered about having a midget as a child no matter how much you claim to love the father. Plus I wouldn’t want to be the reason my child will be bûllied most of the times. It’s also possible she did prenatal testing while pregnant.
“Being married to such a person would also make you walk on eggshells cos most of your actions will likely be misunderstood especially if you married one with a low self esteem which majority of them suffer from. She really tried.”
One of her friends, Kikky Chukwurah wrote:
“So my Facebook friend, Obianuju Benita Anekwe made a very condescending post about Mr Nkubi,
Amid social media outrage and backlash on that post, Her subsequent posts showed her defiance and no regards whatsoever for the uproar her post generated.
I told her to pull down the post and render an unreserved apology to the couple,
She chose to block me than remedy the mess,
She would not realise her folly now, but let her take note as some of her supporters goad her on to destruct1on, the negative effect especially on her business won’t be nice at all.
In all we do, may we never lose sight of Emotional Intelligence.
Lets be guided in our utterances and public conduct, Not every thought that makes it to our heads should be penned down on a public domain.
Insensitive people are a major turn off for me.
This is how i watch tactless people, with so much disdain.”
Aku Achenyo wrote: “Emotional intelligence flew over some people’s head and it’s nauseatingly annoying how people say mean things without thinking twice about how their words can damage others. Obianuju Benita Anekwe Facebook monetization shouldn’t be the reason you loose your humanity. Get a grip.”
Chidume Godswill Chibuzor:
“ABSURD!TY FOR CLOUT CHASING
To Obianuju Benita Anekwe
Your statement about Mr. and Mrs. Nkubi is an egregious example of derogatory, insensitive, dehumanizing, segregative, and unreasonable words from a fellow human being.
As the wise saying goes, ‘Facial looks cover a lot of bad attitudes.’ Your words have proven that you are ignorantly unreasonable and shameless.
I doubt if you are well-learned, strongly feel you are an olodo who may have used her alleged infect¡ous b0dy to get marks in school.
As an educated individual, if you are, one would expect a higher level of awareness and empathy. It is appalling that you are unaware that such statements are punishable under Nigerian law. Have you considered the emotional distress this post may cause to the affected family?
Who are you to criticize someone’s natural appearance? This is not only hurtful but also unacceptable. I’m sure you’ve been reading the comments, and I’d like to remind you that ‘Vox Populi, Vox Dei’ – the voice of the people is the voice of God.
Your actions have consequences. You should rather promote respect and dignity of individuals than cause them pain. There are things better left unsaid.
You should show us your husband.”
She apologized about an hour ago at the time of filing this report.
She wrote:
“I want to sincerely apologize to everyone that was offended about the post I made yesterday especially to the family of Nkubi, I will never intentionally say or do things that would affect anyone in a bad way. I don’t lack empathy and I am not a wicked person.
Sincere apologies.
Thanks to everyone that reached out.”
