Security operatives allegedly assault physically challenged #EndBadGovernance protester in Bauchi Government House (video)
Some policemen have been accused of assaulting a physically challenged man, Hamza Waziri, when he went to the Bauchi State Government House to protest.
A video of the incident is currently trending online. It shows security operatives wrestling with wheelchair-bound Waziri.
Waziri, the leader of the Initiative for the Liberalisation of Physically Challenged People, told newsmen he and his colleagues were exercising their constitutional right to peaceful protest near the Government House when they were attacked by security agents.
He said he organised the protest to show his displeasure with the current economic situation of the country.
During the exercise, he decided to do a live video. This attracted the attention of one of the policemen who accused Waziri of filming him.
He said the cop tried to collect the phone from him and he did not release it, leading to two policemen wrestling with him.
He claimed he was also given a couple of punches while the struggle lasted.
He said their protest was peaceful and they carried placards with the inscriptions: ‘Employment should be for all”, “Everybody should be allowed to be employed’, and ‘Inclusive Society’.
The governor of the state, Bala Mohammed, has condemned the assault on Waziri and ordered a thorough investigation into the incident which happened on August 1, 2024.
