The founder and Chief Executive Officer of Telegram Messenger app, Pavel Durov, has explained how come he has 100 biological children around the world without being married.
The tech-entrepreneur,39, took to his popular channel on Monday evening, July 29 to shed light on this aspect of his life.
According to him, he has opted to be single and live alone. He recalled, however, that his friend came to him with a request 15 years ago to donate his sperm in a clinic.
This was because the friend and his wife were unable to raise a child because of infertility issues.
He said he initially laughed it off but soon realized he was dead serious about it.
He did and moved on with his life.
Durov further narrated that the boss of the clinic later told him he had something special and that ‘high-quality donor material’ was in short supply.
He said the boss also told him it was his civic duty to donate more sperm to anonymously help more couples.
“This sounded crazy enough to get me to sign up for sperm donation” he recalled.
He donated as much as he could over the years before he finally stopped.
Now, according to him, he has helped over a hundred couples in 12 countries to have kids.
He added that at least one IVF clinic still has his frozen sperm available for anonymous use by families who wanted to have children.
Durov, who is a Russian by birth, but lives in Dubai, United Arab Emirate, hinted that he would open-source his DNA to make it easier for his biological children to trace him.
He said he did not regret being a donor because it was increasingly becoming difficult for couples to find high quality sperm worldwide.
“I’m proud that I did my part to help alleviate it”, he said.
Durov, who was dubbed as the richest expat in the UAE by the Forbes in 2022, called on other men to donate sperm to families struggling to have kids around the world.
He was named the most powerful entrepreneur in Duba by Arabian Business in February 2023.
