Tragic moment boat carrying 53 capsized in Kenya on Sunday (Video)

A boat carrying over 50 people capsized in Kenya on Sunday, and it was all captured on camera.

Two dead bodies have been pulled out of the water, while 21 others are still missing from the incident which happened in Garissa on the evening of Sunday, April 28, 2024.

Officials of Kenya Redcross, Garissa and Tana River counties are still at the site of the tragedy site looking for survivors.

A massive flood has plagued the community after the Tana River broke its banks following heavy rains.

Officials said the tragic incident happened around 6:30 on Sunday and it soon turned dark, making search and rescue very difficult.

The officials were only able to rescue 22 people.

It was learnt that community residents resorted to the use of canoes to move around following the closure of the road section connecting Madogo and Garissa.

The boats charged Sh1500 for the short distance normally charged Sh30 by public service vehicles.

The ill-fated boat was believed to have been overloaded at the time of the incident.

A video of the incident shows the moment the boat went under with many people at the river bank wailing and crying.
