Young couple cry out after being visited twice in 6 months by armed robbers in Ibadan

Some obidents gloat at the couple's misfortune because they allegedly supported Tinubu

A young wife, Adebimpe Azeezat Adedeji, has taken to social media to cry out after being attacked twice in six months in their newly built home in Moniya area of Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

Adebimpe Azeezat Adedeji recalled on X how robbers invaded their home in September and carted away their valuables, including their car and the tools of their business.

According to her, it was barely a month after they moved into the property.

Adedeji said they were only just picking the pieces of their lives when the robbers came again and stripped them of what they had managed to accumulate.

“In less than 6 months, Nigeria happened to me and my family AGAIN! Please read to the end.

Myself, my husband and my little baby girl moved to Moniya in Ibadan in August 2023.

In September, 2023, a month after we moved in, we were robbed at gun point in our home. My husband’s car was stolen, his phone was taken away, the MacBook I used for my research work was taken away. Our jewelries, all the money we had in our account, everything was taken away.

I was away on a trip (for a friend’s wedding in Epe- where my parents live as well) when it happened.

My husband called me in the morning and I’d never heard him sound so broken, traumatized and defeated😞 He said he wanted  to die because where would he start from? Everything he worked for, for over five years of his life was taken away from him in a blink of an eye.

There was nothing I could do, I had to stay back with my parents in Epe (with my baby) for a month because my husband couldn’t go back to the house until my parents adviced us to go back home (it’s our house, we just built it and we shouldn’t run away from it, they said).

After that incident, my husband couldn’t sleep well. For weeks, he didn’t sleep at all at night. He said when he was alone, it was not as much risk as when his family is with him. We scaled through. We literally started from the scratch, all over again. My husband’s stolen…gadgets were Apple products+ Hp laptop I used for less technical research. From the support we got from family and friends, my husband was able to buy a small Samsung phone and I bought a Dell laptop (because I must work). I’m shaking and crying as I’m typing this…Cos just yesterday’s midnight, Nigeria happened to us again.  We are just getting ourself back together FGS. We got robbed again. My husband’s phone got stolen again. The new laptop I bought too was stolen, all the money in our accounts were taken away, our atm cards everything!

I didn’t want to bring this here because it is a personal issue but this is 3:46am and I’ve been awake since 1:00am (around the time the incident happened yesterday). You don’t really understand a situation until you experience it. I’ve never been this terrified in my whole life.

They came wit guns, sharp cutlasses. We are just young Nigerians trying to a living in this mess. I have been an active research/academic writer since2019, while my husband has been running a fashion store since2020, it’s not like there’s any plan in place for the common Nigerian.

We just have to fight our way to survive and that’s what we have been doing as young couples. Where do we start from again ?? I can’t sleep, I remember the robbers hitting me, asking for my phone. I remember how they asked my husband if he wants them to kill us  (for what 😞😞)

I just got admitted into the Nigerian law school. I came to pick some things I need in school when this happened. I was supposed to go back on Sunday but here I am, stuck in Ibadan. I would have to miss classes because I’m not even in the mental state to do anything right now😞

After, the first incident, my husband went to the police station,  reported, wrote statement, paid for tracking the devices but all his efforts proved abortive. We went to the police station yesterday morning again and we were asked to write a petition and come back on Monday.

Did I remember to tell you how much landlords in our community victimized us just because we are “young”, no support whatsoever. We are shuttling between staying with friends/our fashion store until I can go back home to my family/law school (both in Lagos).

This is me in my total vulnerability asking for help and support. Help us tag the necessary authorities, we need help, we need support, we are without a home as we speak right now because what is a home when you cannot sleep soundly there ? I don’t have any means to work again..

I just want to give up because why is life so hard😞 😞

@oyostategovt, @seyiamakinde, @Nigeriapolicef3, PLEASE WHAT IS HAPPENING IN IBADAN??? Why is there so much robbery going on??? Why is nobody talking or doing anything about it ???

Where do we start from again ??? Where ????

Our neighbors were robbed too, their family came to visit them cos they just moved in and were all robbed! In all, the robbers left with money, 9 phones, a laptop! etc. They stole footwears, watches etc. It was a comfortable robbery, and traumatic incident. God 😭😞

People have been asking me to drop my account details. It’s so thoughtful of you all and we really appreciate it. Thank you so much 🥺🙏🏾”

The plight of the young couple has attracted wide support, with some sending them money to help them find their feet again.

However, some trolls are calling out Adebimpe for liking pro-Tinubu and anti-Peter Obi tweets in the past, and are trying to use this to dissuade people from supporting the young couple.

One @Nnekabusybody wrote: “We reap what we sow. Criminals are emboldened when their colleagues is in power.  You supported a criminal to become president, wiped your account clean of all traces before coming to cry and beg for money online, but forgot that your “likes” still remain. Consequences dear.

@bimpe_azeezat responded:

“If I didn’t make one political post, related to Peter Obi which I deleted, May what happened to us happen to you in manifolds. Read all the tweets I liked, weren’t they funny and can be liked irrespective of political affiliations? While I wasn’t even vocal about who I supported”
