A trending video showing a species of fish that allegedly has a human face has been trending on social media in Nigeria.

The narrator in the video called the species Homo Piscis fish. The story gained currency after it was first posted on YouTube by Headtap Videos.

The narrator claimed the species was discovered in Lake Samsara, supposedly in Karanji.

He further claimed in the video, entitled “The Shocking Truth about Human-Faced Fish,” that the creature is more intelligent than your average fish and has displayed advanced social behaviours.

However, contrary to the claims made in the video, information about any such creature is nowhere else.

Microsecondnews’ check online turned up nothing to corroborate the publications. There was no credible documentation or scientific evidence supporting the existence of such a species.

There does not seem to be any water body known as Lake Samsara either. Then the location identified as Karanji appeared only as the name of a lake in India, not a separate location as suggested.

All indications point to the fact that the images were AI-generated.

One of those who commented on the original video made this point and the original poster of the video did not dispute it. Instead, he told the commenter he was stating the obvious.

The creator of Headtap Videos stated in reaction to the comment, “Good thing you were here to point out the obvious.”
