OAU lecturer allegedly assaults student for refusing to switch off his phone during lecture (video)

A lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in Osun state has been accused of assaulting a student for refusing to switch off his phone while in his class.

In a viral video, the lecturer, Dr Ariyo of the Department of Electrical Engineering, could be heard asking him to switch off his phone but he refused.

“You can’t be more than me,” he said to him.

The student kept saying ‘What did I do?’ and refused to obey his directive. It was at this point that the lecturer got angry and forcefully took the phone from him and then pushed him.

Lere Olayinka, a former aide to ex-governor Ayo Fayose who shared the video online said the student bled from the assault.

“This is a lecturer in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Dr. Ariyo, from the Department of Elect Engineering, assaulting a student in his class today.

The student is currently bleeding and his SAMSUNG phone damaged.”
