Nigerian chef Adeyeye Adeola, also known as Chef Deo has crossed the 5-hour mark as she aims to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual after Hilda Baci.

As she had promised, Adeola began her cook-a-thon on June 30, 2023, in the Ile-Oluji Local Government Area of Ondo State and is slated to conclude it on July 6, 2023.

Chef Deo’s attempt is coming quickly after another attempt by Nigerian chef, Adeparusi Damilola, also known as Chef Dammy, who on a 120-hour cook-a-thon in the Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Chef Dammy’s attempt was marred by procedural errors which may not allow her effort to count. Among other things, it appeared she did not make any formal application to Guinness before embarking on the exercise.

The current Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon (individual) is held by Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, who achieved a remarkable time of 93 hours and 11 minutes.

Her record-breaking attempt took place from May 11 to May 15, during which she prepared over 100 pots of food over the course of four days.

The Guinness World Records has officially acknowledged Hilda Baci’s achievement after conducting a comprehensive review of the evidence.

However, if Adeyeye Adeola manages to complete her planned 150-hour cook-a-thon, she will surpass Hilda Baci’s record and establish a new world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

Hours after the commencement of the event, a Nigerian identified as Alakowe took to his media page to react.

He wrote “Another chef from Ile Oluji, Ondo State Chef Deo, commences her 150hrs cook-a-thon to break Hilda Baci’s current record. She has cooked for 5hrs 40mins now.”
