“I was called from the hospital” — Woman laments as Lagos State govt demolishes houses on a whole street (Video)

More than a dozen houses have been demolished in Ajao Estate by the Lagos State government.

The houses, worth millions of naira were brought down by heavy duty equipment mobilized to the scene by the Lagos State government.

One of the victims who can be heard wailing in one clip showing the demolition said she was called from the hospital bed that her house was being demolished and she had to rush to the scene.

The state authorities said the houses were demolished because there was no approval for them and they were constructed too close to the Murtala International Airport, Lagos.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Gbolahan Oki, provided several reasons for the demolition while addressing reporters.

Oki stated that the buildings lacked the necessary approvals and were located in restricted areas around the airport, while some were situated near aviation fuel pipelines.

He further added that this situation could result in a potential disaster, such as a fire outbreak from the pipeline, which could lead to the loss of lives and properties.
