Naira scarcity casualty in Delta identified as building material merchant

The man who slumped and died inside a bank in Agbor, Ika Local Government Area of Delta State, has been identified as Mr Vincent Igweh, a building material merchant.

It was gathered that the late Igweh visited the Bank in Agbor to collect his ATM card in order to access the new naira notes that were only being loaded on the ATM.

He reportedly spent hours waiting to be attended to because of the huge crowd trying to collect the new naira notes.

He later slumped inside the bank and was rushed to St. John Catholic Hospital, Agbor where he was confirmed dead.

A spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed that the deceased was waiting to collect his Automated Teller Machine card at the bank.

The wife of the deceased at their residence on Andy Iyama Street, Agbor, told sympathisers she got a call to come to Catholic Hospital, Agbor, adding that when she got there, she discovered that her husband who left the house that morning hale and hearty was dead and had already been taken to the mortuary.

Some of the sympathisers blamed the death of the trader on the Naira redesign programme of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
