Travellers abducted on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday identified

More information has come in on the attack on travellers on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway by armed bandits on Friday, October 28.

A former Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, Professor Adigun Agbaje, has been identified as one of the travellers abducted by the bandits.

Also abducted are two students of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun State, one of whom was identified as Miss Oluwatobi Orekoya.

It became apparent the victims were kidnapped when they did not make it home to their families. It was further confirmed that they were with the bandits after they reached out to their respective families to request for ransoms.

The bandits have reportedly asked for N50 million for the release of Professor Agbaje, while the parents of the two MAPOLY students were asked to pay N10 million ransom.

Agbaje, said to be on sabbatical at the Ogun State-owned Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, was returning to Ibadan around 6 pm when he was ambushed and abducted.

The President of MAPOLY Student Union Government, Damilola Ajani, has called on members of the public to assist the families of the abducted students to raise the money being demanded by the bandits.

Recall that MSN published earlieron Saturday that the Oyo State police command confirmed that there was an attack on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway by armed bandits.

But the command made it seem like the attack was unsuccessful as the bandits were engaged by the policemen stationed at the Ibadan Old Toll Gate end of the expressway.

The command’s spokesman, Adewale Osifeso, disclosed that an officer died during an exchange of gunfire with the bandits.

Osifeso, however, conceded that some abandoned vehicles were retrieved from the scene.

He also assured that the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Williams, had ordered full-scale investigations into the incident.
