Man whose wife died while chasing him and side chick still alive

Sunday Bassey and Claret Opara Bassey

The man whose wife died in an accident while she was racing to catch him and his side chick in Calabar, Cross River, is not dead, as reported in a section of online media.

A Nigerian broadcaster, Lara Wise, took to Facebook to make this clarification on Monday afternoon, following the widespread misinformation.

The report had suggested that Barrister Sonnie Bassey, failed to come out of a coma he fell into after the loss of his wife, Claret Opara-Bassey, in an accident on September 18.

Claret had sighted her hubby with a side chick and tried to catch up with him as he raced away from the scene.

The wife, unfortunately, lost control of the car she was driving and ran into a barrier, dying in the process.

Providing an update, Wise wrote on her Facebook page: “It’s a wild rumour. He is not dead. I just spoke with his friend.”

Bassey and his late wife have three children together.
