We have no brother by name Femi Owolabi – Family of hotelier killed by kidnappers

The family of the hotelier, Gbenga Owolabi, killed by his abductors in Abaa, Ogbomoso last week, has debunked a rumour making the rounds on social media that a family member had been picked up for complicity in the abduction and murder.

There has been a rumour in social media what a younger brother of the deceased by name, Femi Owolabi, had confessed to having a hand in the dastardly act after being nabbed and paraded by the police.

The rumour has gained traction on Facebook where many users of the platform has shared it widely.

However, the family of the deceased hotelier has clarified that they have no member of the family named Femi Owolabi.

Speaking to ogbomosoinsightonline.com, the elder brother of the deceased Mr Ayo Owolabi, said on Sunday evening that he had no sibling bearing Femi Owolabi.

He also added that no family member had been arrested in connection with the kidnap and murder of his brother, Gbenga.

He prayed that God would unmask those behind the murder of his brother in due course.

It would be recalled that on July 28, the hotelier, Gbenga Owolabi, who just returned from the United States of America, was kidnapped in his hotel – Tana Suites, at Abaa, Ilorin road, along with a staffer in the hotel, Rachael Opadele, a final year student at LAUTECH, Ogbomoso.

The kidnappers asked for a ransom, and the family of the deceased hotelier mustered the sum of N5m which was delivered as directed.

However, the abductors opened fire on the commercial motorcyclist rider and his passenger, a relative of the deceased who took the ransom to the kidnappers. The cyclists died, while the relative is still in the hospital fighting for his life.
