Herdsmen allegedly gang rape, kill housewife in Ondo

File: A herdsman recently arrested with AK 47 rifle

A woman has been gang-raped and murdered by people suspected to be Fulani herdsmen at Igbokoda in Ilaje council area of Ondo State.

The woman, Mrs Roseline Joguntan, was a fruit seller who went to her farm to gather fruits for sale when she was attacked.

She was said to have successfully gathered the first basket of fruits and gave it to her daughter to take home.

It was while gathering the second basket that the assailants descended on her. Her daughter returned to where she left her and did not see her. She then looked around the farm and found her lifeless body in the bush.

The girl was said to have raised alarm and the deceased’s husband, Mr Joguntan reported the case at the police station.

Residents alleged that Fulani herdsmen had dominated the community in the recent past and were the prime suspects.

The police command image maker, Funmilayo Odunlami said that it was the husband of the deceased that informed the police when he could not reach his wife on phone.

Odunlami said that it was when the husband went to the farm to check on her that he found her lifeless body in the pool of her blood.

She said that the killers would soon be exposed and brought to book.

Meanwhile, the police have deposited the corpse at the state specialist hospital morgue for autopsy.
