Police Service Commission sets up fresh panel to probe Abba Kyari

Hushpuppi, Kyari

The Police Service Commission has announced the constitution of its own in-house panel to study in detail the documents presented by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which indicted the super cop, Abba Kyari.

Recall that Kyari, a former head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force, is currently on suspension after he was accused of receiving a bribe from a suspected internet fraudster, Abbas Ramon, also known as Hushpuppi, by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States.

A Police investigative panel had earlier been set up by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu. It is headed by Joseph Egbunike, a Deputy Inspector-General of Police.

Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba recently issued a statement to debunk reports by some print and online platforms that the panel had concluded investigations.

Mba said investigations were still ongoing and the public would be informed when the panel submits its report.

The fresh panel constituted by the Police Service Commission is being headed by Barr. Tijani Mohammed, Director, Department of Police Discipline in the commission.

The panel was inaugurated by the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the commission, Alhaji Abubakar Ismaila.
