An attempt was made on the life of Mali’s interim President Assimi Goita on July 20 as he prayed in a mosque in celebration of Eid al-Adha.
A knifeman lounged at the president seated on a mat on the front row at the Great Mosque in Bamako.
The knifeman missed, and the security details nearby rushed in and overpowered him and his accomplice.
One of the two assailants was thrown into the back of a military pickup truck. Other security agents surrounded the president, who was in a sky blue kaftan, and whisked him out of the venue.
