Cops repel attack on Imo police station, kill eight hoodlums

Another attempt to hit a police station in Imo State by some armed men has ended in the death of eight of the hoodlums, according to police sources.

The police sources said some gunmen attacked the Orlu Divisional Police Headquarters in Imo State on Thursday and were repelled by the joint security operatives.

The seven vehicles the attackers came in for the operation were impounded.

It was learnt that the fire-fight between the gunmen and the security operatives lasted several hours. The military had to send reinforcement from the 34 artillery brigade, Obinze, in Owerri.

Residents and passersby fled in various directions to avoid being hit by stray bullets. The Roads in Orlu town and its environs were said to have been deserted.

The attackers were believed to have set an Armoured Personnel Carrier ablaze at Umuna junction in Orlu town.

There were reports of a few stray bullet hits but no civilian death was reported as of the time of filing this report.

Efforts to get official reaction had not yielded positive result at the time of filing this report.
