Sulaimon Ganiyu

A man, Sulaiman Ganiyu, has been arrested after he stormed a secondary school in Ago Iwoye with a gun to protest the flogging of his younger brother by a teacher.

Ganiyu caused pandemonium at Itamerin Comprehensive High School, Ago Iwoye on Wednesday, as he shot his way into the school premises, forcing students and teachers to flee in different directions.

Frantic teachers made calls to the  police but the by the time a police patrol team led by the DPO Ago-Iwoye, CSP Paul Omiwole, arrived,  Ganiyu had escaped.

Discreet investigations by the police led them to his hideout in Imosan Street, Oru-Ijebu, where he was arrested.

He turned out to be a suspect wanted in connection with a string of murders.

Ogun Police Command Spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a press statement that Ganiyu confessed to be a member of the Eiye confraternity.

“He confessed further that he was the one who killed one Awokale Olusegun, aka Lala, on February 27, 2020, over a supremacy battle following which he was declared wanted by the police.

“He also confessed to being responsible for the death of one Babasco and one Dapo at Ijebu-Igbo in 2015 during a clash between his group and the Aiye cult,” the statement said.

It was further gathered that the suspect was responsible for a series of violent cult clashes in Ago-Iwoye, Awa-Ijebu, Oru-Ijebu, Ilaponu and Ijebu-Igbo, in recent time.

Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, directed his men to transfer the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
