Why we will continue to torment Nigeria- Bandit leader grants interview

A bandit leader identified as Halilu Sububu, has explained why bandits are wreaking havoc all over Nigeria.

In a recorded interview with Daily Trust TV, which is currently circulating across the social media, Sububu, says there will continue to be killings because the Federal Government breached an agreement it had with the bandits.

In the interview believed to have been granted in the bandit’s enclave in Sububu forest located between Zamfara and Sokoto States, the bandit leader openly declares that they are herders, but have taken to banditry because of untold suffering in the midst of plenty.

This puts paid to the argument over whether most of the bandits are herders or not. Many, including some prominent Nigerians have argued that the bandits oppressing Nigerians could not be called herders if there are no cows with them.

Sububu boldly states that the herders face untold hardship even though they see so much wealth all around them and their children cannot go to school.

Sububu demands that President Muhammadu Buhari should personally take up the issue, call for negotiation and see to the implementation of reached agreement.

He also calls for equal treatment for all the tribes, Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa.

“Enrol the young ones in school…we should be treated the same way. Give them jobs with the government, put them in schools.

“The President should personally come and preside over the talks. When he was campaigning, he traveled all over. Why would he not do it now?”

The bandit admits that too much killings are happening across Nigeria. He says if the president truly knows how many people are being killed in Zamfara, Niger, Kaduna, Sokoto and Katsina States on a daily basis, he would be alarmed.

“He (Buhari) does not take these peace talks seriously, and everyday people are being killed”, Sububu said.
