Police take over Lekki tollgate, arrests protesters

Security forces took over the Lekki Tollgate as early as 6 am today to stop the #OccupyLekkiProtest. A few arrests of early arrivals have been made as this report is being filed.

Recall that the Minister of Information, the Lagos State government and the police had issued warnings that they would not allow any protest to hold at Lekki tollgate under any guise.

However, the organisers of the protest, tagged #EndSARS Season 2, insisted there was no going back on the protest.

Mobilisation of participants is still actively going on on key social media in Nigeria in spite of the threats, with #Lekkitollgate currently trending at number one.

The BBC currently has a live feed of the proposed protest grounds. However, this does not deter the police from making arrests.

A protester, Damilare Adebayo was among the first arrests made by the police. He was filmed in the back of a Black Maria granting an interview insisting that he had no regret for coming out to protest.

Some tweets also suggest that popular online comic, Mr Macaroni has been arrested.
