A man, Godwin Anuka, who was abducted alongside his wife and two children by suspected Fulani herders in Ubulu-Uku, Delta State, has been killed in their presence by his captors.

Harrison Gwamnishu, the Senior Special Assistant on Civil Society and Youth Mobilisation to the Delta State Governor, disclosed this in a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 2.

According to Gwamnishu, the kidnappers had earlier abducted two individuals—Chibueze, a student of Delta State Polytechnic, and Mr. Afam Soeze, who was abducted outside his residence in Ubulu-Uku—on March 23.

The victims were taken into the bush while ransom demands were made.

While hiding in the bush with the initial abductees, the kidnappers spotted Anuka, his wife, and their two young children working on their farm.

They proceeded to abduct the entire family and demanded ransom.

Gwamnishu explained, “Mr. Godwin Anuka, his wife, and two underage children were kidnapped on March 29, 2025, at their farm in Ubulu-Uku, Delta State. The same five-man gang of Fulani armed kidnappers carried out this crime.

“They kidnapped Chibueze from Ogwashi-Uku, then trekked to Ubulu-Uku and abducted Mr. Afam. They moved through the Isah Ogwashi/Ubulu-Uku road to Power Line, then to a farm road in Ani-Uje Ubulu-Uku, where they camped and started demanding ransom.

“It was at this camp that they saw Mr. Godwin and his family and took all of them.”

Efforts were made by local authorities to rescue the victims. The chairman of Aniocha South Local Government, Hon. Pastor Jude Chukwunwike, mobilized military personnel alongside the Ubulu-Uku Central Vigilante team and the Nigerian Army for a rescue operation.

After a ransom was paid, the kidnappers released Chibueze, Mr. Afam, Anuka’s wife, and their children. However, it was revealed that Anuka had been shot dead in the presence of his wife and children.

Gwamnishu wrote, “Despite efforts by the vigilante team and the Nigerian Army, after a large ransom was paid, the kidnappers released Chibueze, Mr. Afam, and Anuka’s family. Sadly, we were informed that Mr. Godwin was executed right in the farm, with his wife and children watching.”
