A 37-year-old woman, Linda Stephen, has filed for divorce at a Kaduna Customary Court, citing her husband’s excessive sexual demands as the primary reason for her decision.
Stephen, a resident of Ungwan Sunday in Kaduna, told the court on Tuesday that her husband, Felix Stephen, frequently assaulted her whenever she refused his advances.
She revealed that their marriage, which has lasted six years, has become unbearable due to his insatiable desires.
“I can no longer cope with his constant demands for sex,” she stated. “He insists on intimacy from midnight until the early hours of the morning, and even when I cry, he does not stop.”
The petitioner further disclosed that she moved out of their home three months ago and has since been urged by her husband’s relatives to return, though they are unaware of her suffering.
She also accused Felix of lacking self-control, claiming that he resorts to violence in front of their two children whenever she refuses his advances.
In response, the husband pleaded with the court to deny the divorce request, expressing his love for his wife and his willingness to change.
“I admit I have a strong desire for intimacy, but I am willing to control it,” Felix said. “I have taken my uncles and friends to beg her parents, but she refused to listen and walked out on us.”
He requested additional time to reconcile with his wife before a final decision is made.
After listening to both parties, the Court President, John Dauda, adjourned the case until May 6, 2025, to allow for possible reconciliation and advised them to maintain peace in the meantime.
