Popular comedian and actor Adebowale Adedayo, widely known as Mr Macaroni, has shared how financial recklessness, a failed investment, and a scam plunged him into a staggering N500 million debt.

In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter) on March 20, the entertainer recounted his financial struggles, revealing that his ordeal began in 2021 but worsened due to his unchecked generosity and poor financial decisions.

According to Mr Macaroni, he lost his entire savings between 2021 and 2022 after falling victim to fraud and a bad investment. Despite the devastating loss, he chose to keep his struggles private.

“Sometime around 2021/2022, I was a victim of a scam and, at the same time, suffered a failed investment that wiped out all my savings. It shook me deeply, but I told NO ONE about it,” he wrote.

Determined to maintain his public persona, the actor continued his career, concealing his financial turmoil.

However, in an attempt to meet his obligations, he resorted to borrowing, a decision that worsened his situation.

Believing that his steady income would cover his debts, Mr Macaroni admitted that he underestimated the burden of repaying loans with interest.

“I make millions, so I never thought borrowing would be a problem. But I got too comfortable and didn’t realize I was using my earnings to pay back interest,” he explained.

He also acknowledged his long-standing habit of excessive giving, noting that even before fame, he was known for prioritizing others’ needs over his own.

“I would give out my money for lunch to someone who didn’t have breakfast, forgetting that I would go hungry myself. If you are like me, please learn to share wisely,” he advised.

The actor disclosed that his situation reached its lowest point in 2024 when someone he deeply trusted betrayed him.

“I hardly trust people, and nothing really surprises me about human behaviour, but this one, I could never have prepared for. The level of trust and love I had for this person made the betrayal devastating,” he stated.

Despite the setbacks, Mr Macaroni said 2024 was also a breakthrough year for his acting career, with two of his films screened at international festivals.

Determined to turn things around, he made tough financial decisions and leaned on family and friends for support.

In his message, he urged people to be financially responsible, seek help when needed, and never lose hope in difficult times.

“It’s okay to make mistakes and learn from them. What is not okay is to keep repeating the same mistakes,” he emphasized.

Concluding his note, he encouraged his followers not to be discouraged by betrayal or hardship but to keep striving for a better future.

“May the love in our hearts be greater than the hate, betrayal, and wickedness in the world,” he wrote.
