Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has vacated the Government House in Port Harcourt, along with his family and security team, following the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu.

A source close to the governor, who requested anonymity, confirmed that Fubara left the premises on Wednesday morning.

The decision to leave came after soldiers took over the Government House on Tuesday night as part of the enforcement of the emergency rule.

Despite the governor’s exit, security at the Government House remains minimal, with two Armoured Personnel Carriers still stationed outside the premises, accompanied by a handful of security personnel.

As of the time of filing this report, normal activities continue in Port Harcourt and surrounding areas, with no significant disruption to daily life.

Meanwhile, the appointed Administrator of Rivers State, retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas, is yet to formally assume office.

A correspondent of the Punch reported seeing preparations at the Government House to receive Ibas, with about 15 soldiers present within the premises.

The appointment of Ibas follows Tinubu’s decision to suspend Fubara, his deputy Mrs. Ngozi Odu, and members of the state’s House of Assembly for six months, citing the need to restore law and order in the state.
