Newlywed couple d!es in Otedola Bridge gas tanker fire

A young banker and his newly wed wife, Dozie and Joan Okoye, died in the gas explosion on the Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Authorities had initially claimed that there were no casualties in the fire incident, but one eyewitness was caught in one of the videos emanating from the scene saying that he saw at least one dead person in the fire.

It later emerged that at least four charred bodies were recovered after the fire subsided.

It is not clear if Dozie and Joan were counted among the four bodies that the authorities later announced.

The couple who got married on February 22, 2025, were returning home from work when they were caught up in the explosion.

Relatives tried to reach their lines to no avail.

They went to the Burns Centre in Gbagada hoping they would be found among those who survived the fire incident.

They later went to Yaba Mortuary, where they found their charred remains on Wednesday evening.

The registration number of the car they were retrieved from matched that of the late couple.

It would be recalled that the explosion occurred at 8:08 pm on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, after a 30-tonne tanker carrying gas products, said to be owned by a nearby gas station, got involved in an accident and exploded.

The blast severely affected De-Twist Dental Clinic, while the generator house and security post of a nearby church building also sustained significant damage.

Responders recovered four charred bodies, including that of an auto mechanic identified as Rotimi Adeleye.
