Dangote Refinery slashes fuel price again amid market competition
Dangote Refinery has once again reduced the price of fuel, following a drop in the landing cost to N774.82 per litre—lower than its previous ex-depot price of N825 per litre.
Unlike the price adjustment on February 26, 2025, the refinery has not made an official announcement regarding this latest reduction.
The move comes amid an ongoing price battle between Dangote Refinery and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), two dominant forces in the country’s downstream oil sector.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Chinedu Ukadike, attributed the price cut to market competition.
“It is true. There is speculation that the price of imported products is now lower, which has led to the price war. This is the beauty of deregulation. Dangote has millions of litres in stock and would not want external forces to take its market share, so the price reduction was inevitable,” he stated.
However, it remains unclear whether the latest price cut will translate to lower retail prices at filling stations affiliated with Dangote, such as MRS, where petrol is currently sold at N860 per litre in Lagos and N880 in Abuja.
