No fewer than 35 lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly are currently at the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja to perfect the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as the Speaker of the house.
Recall that a majority of the lawmakers removed Obasa on January 13, 2025, and elected Mojisola Meranda as the first female speaker of the assembly.
The ‘impeached’ Speaker, however, challenged the action, calling it illegal.
Meranda continued to hold sway as the Speaker until Thursday, February 27, when Obasa stormed the assembly with police escorts.
The security aides of Meranda had been withdrawn a couple of days earlier.
Obasa moved into the office of the Speaker. Meranda’s media aide later confirmed this, accusing Obasa of breaking into the Speaker’s office.
Obasa claimed that Meranda had resigned as speaker.
This morning the lawmakers in support of Meranda stormed the court to perfect Obasa’s removal.
