The police in Colombia have apprehended a 40-year-old man attempting to smuggle several bags of cocaine concealed beneath a toupee attached to his head.
The suspect was detained at Cartagena’s airport on Monday, Feb. 24, as he prepared to board a flight to Amsterdam.
The man’s grand plan was busted by a scanner which revealed he hid 220 grams of cocaine packaged in small bags, strategically placed under what authorities described as a “narco wig.”
The amount of cocaine hidden in the man’s wig is estimated to have a street value of approximately 10,000 euros in European markets.
A video released by the police on Monday captured the moment an officer, wearing blue gloves, carefully removed the suspect’s wig with scissors, revealing approximately a dozen packets of cocaine.
The police said the man is a repeat offender. He had been previously caught and convicted for drug trafficking on two occasions.
Cartagena Police Commander Gen. Gelver Yesid Peña said, “Organized crime groups are exploiting young people, falsely suggesting they can easily bypass our security measures. However, this case demonstrates that is not true.”
