A Nigerian man has said that the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, who was recently assaulted by a female student of the school, Precious Mbakwe, was to blame for the incident.

It would be recalled that Dr Okoye was slapped and bitten by a female student Precious Goddy Mbakwe, when he interrupted her dance session on a walkway in the university.

He had tapped her on the shoulder and said, “Excuse me” as he passed. The lady took offence at that and muttered something the lecturer found insulting.

He said he asked her to delete the video she took because he feared he appeared in it, but she resisted leading to the confrontations and violence that ensued.

Speaking on a radio programme, the man opined that the lecturer should not have touched Precious when he asked her to excuse him while walking through the school corridor.

“He didn’t behave like a lecturer. You could say excuse me without touching people, especially you know…that’s not a male that you are touching. That’s a female. And you are supposed to be like her teacher. You are supposed to be High up there. You are not supposed to touch. That was the beginning of the whole problem. The touch was the beginning of the whole problem.

The man argued that Nigerians were fond of touching people even when they used the word ‘’excuse me.”

‘’What then is the meaning of excuse me?”
