Speeding trailer driver injures LASTMA officer in Ojodu Berger, Lagos
A Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officer suffered critical injuries after being struck by a speeding trailer at the Ojodu Berger area of Lagos on Tuesday, February 5, 2025.
The trailer, with Bauchi State registration number KTG 33 ZZ, was travelling from Agidingbi via Oba Ogunji Road towards Omole Junction in the Ogba corridor when the driver lost control due to excessive speed, leading to the collision.
The impact resulted in severe trauma to the officer, causing significant fractures to his right leg and hand.
Medical professionals at the Surgical Emergency Centre of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) determined that the injuries were so severe that an immediate amputation of his right leg was necessary.
Following the incident, the trailer driver attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended through the combined efforts of officers from the Ojodu Police Station and vigilant LASTMA officials.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, visited the injured officer at LASUTH.
He condemned the driver’s reckless behaviour and emphasized that such incidents could be prevented if drivers adhered to basic road safety protocols.
He urged all motorists, especially those operating heavy vehicles, to exercise caution and recognize the invaluable worth of human life. Bakare-Oki stated, “LASTMA officers are not adversaries to motorists; rather, they are dedicated to ensuring that traffic flows seamlessly, thereby fostering economic growth and urban efficiency in Lagos State.”
He extended his heartfelt wishes for the officer’s swift recovery and reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to enhancing road safety and maintaining order on Lagos roads.
