No fewer than 15 people, including children, have lost their lives in a fuel tanker explosion at Ugwu Onyeama, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The tragic incident happened on Saturday, January 25, 2025 around 11:30 a.m.
A Lexus SUV carrying a family of six, including a man who is based abroad, appeared to have hit a fully loaded fuel tanker from behind.
The tanker exploded on impact giving the occupants of the SUV and the tanker no opportunity to escape.
All the occupants of the SUV and tanker were burnt to ashes.
The family members of the occupants of the SUV lamented that they could not even find anything to bury from the remains of their loved ones involved in the accident.
Another tanker and six other vehicles were trapped in the flames.
Eye-witnesses said rescue efforts were hindered by the intensity of the blaze.
