‘Nigeria mismanaged’, Senator Shehu Sani reacts to recovery of 753 duplexes from a govt official

Politician and former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has bemoaned the mismanagement of the resources of Nigeria by past government officials.

The politician was reacting to the news of the recovery of an estate with 753 duplexes and other houses from an unnamed government official who reportedly acquired it at a time the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) was on constant strike over poor pay.

It would be recalled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Monday, disclosed that Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court gave an order of forfeiture on an Abuja estate measuring 150,500 square meters to the government.

The commission said the forfeited estate contained 753 units of duplexes and other apartments.

The forfeiture was described by EFCC as the single largest asset recovery since its inception in 2003.

The EFCC disclosed that the estate, located on Plot 109, Cadastral Zone C09, Lokogoma District, Abuja, belonged to a government official.

The commission did not disclose the official’s identity.

In his reaction to the news, Sani posted on X: “753 duplexes? At that time when ASUU went on strike and students were kept at home for months because ‘there is no money to pay the lecturers.’

“It’s unfortunate. That is how the country was mismanaged.”
