The Federal Government has suspended 13 students from the Federal Government College (FGC) in Enugu State for alleged involvement in a bullying incident.
They will remain suspended for six weeks.
The Ministry of Education announced this decision in a statement from its Director of Press and Public Relations, Folashade Boriowo, in Abuja on Wednesday.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, ordered the suspension following the circulation of a video showing some students engaging in bullying at the school.
Dr. Alausa emphasized the ministry’s dedication to upholding a safe and positive learning environment across all federal schools nationwide.
A recent report to the ministry revealed details of the bullying, which allegedly involved a group attack on an SS1 student on November 7.
The incident came to public attention after a video was widely shared on social media, raising concerns about safety and discipline in the school.
In response, the Ministry of Education set up a disciplinary committee to investigate the case further.
Pending the investigation, the involved students will serve a six-week suspension.
Additionally, Dr. Alausa directed the school’s management to work closely with security agencies to ensure a comprehensive investigation, including probing any links to external groups.
Security measures are being strengthened at FGC Enugu, with law enforcement and revised safety protocols.
Authorities further said counseling and support would be provided for the victim and culprits to foster a safe reintegration for all students.
