Residents rally round young man who collapsed in the middle of the road out of hunger
A trending video has shown the moment residents of a community came to the aid of a young man who suddenly collapsed while walking along the road.
The video shows the man lying on his side on the dusty road as motorcyclists pass in both directions.
The voices of some women and a man can be heard asking the man to stand up.
When he did not stand up, they poured water on him and he moved his hand.
He was then told to sit up as more water was poured on his head.
“You don chop?” (Have you eaten today?) the good Samaritan asked the man who shook his head.
The Samaritan then brought out a small loaf of bread from his bag and gave it to the young man who immediately started eating it.
“Nigeria, Nigeria, you see?” the Good Samaritan exclaimed, as one of the women chastised her colleague for not showing interest in the boy initially.
The other lady said she did not show interest because she thought the young man was a victim of hard drugs.
“This one na hungry!” the other lady responded.
When the victim was interrogated further, he gave his name as Yaya Ahmed, from Edo State.
It turned out that one of the women was from Edo and she spoke her dialect to the young man who responded in the same dialect.
The women were excited, as one promised to help him contact his family.
