Amid roaring chants of “USA” from his jubilant supporters, former U.S. President Donald Trump took the stage at his campaign headquarters in Florida on Wednesday night, alongside his wife, Melania, and several family members, declaring himself the winner of the hotly contested presidential election.
In his victory speech, Trump pledged to “heal” the nation, marking what he described as a historic comeback.
Only Fox News has declared Trump the winner so far, while other networks have yet to call the race.
“Today, we have achieved a victory unlike any seen before,” Trump declared, referencing wins in key swing states like Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina.
Meanwhile, in a sombre atmosphere, Democratic candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris’s team acknowledged the tough night.
Her campaign co-chair, Cedric Richmond, announced that Harris would address her supporters the following day.
The Republican Party also secured control of the Senate, flipping two crucial seats to break the Democrats’ slim majority.
Trump’s potential return to office raises concerns among international allies wary of his nationalist policies, but the financial markets responded positively, with the U.S. dollar rising and Bitcoin hitting a record high.
