No fewer than 40 people are reportedly trapped beneath the rubble of a collapsed building in the Sabon Lugbe area of Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory.
Rescue efforts are still ongoing at the site since early Saturday morning when the building went down.
Emergency response teams, along with local residents, are believed to be working together to access those trapped in the collapsed building.
The building was said to be under construction when it suddenly caved in.
“No fewer than 40 persons are currently trapped in a building collapse that occurred in the Sabon Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. People are under this rubble. It is a building under construction. We are calling on the government and relevant agencies to come and rescue those who are trapped here,” a witness at the site told Vanguard, emphasizing the critical need for more support to aid the ongoing recovery efforts.
This tragedy follows a similar incident just weeks ago in Abuja’s Kubwa area, where part of a two-story residential building collapsed near Cupid Hotel on Sultan Dasuki Way.
In that incident, four individuals were rescued, with several others initially feared trapped.
