Authorities in Zimbabwe are investigating a bizarre baby swap at Chipinge District Hospital, where a woman who gave birth to a baby boy woke up to find a baby girl beside her.
The incident, which occurred on September 21, 2024, has left the community shocked.
Cynthia Masocha, the mother involved, delivered her baby boy with the help of midwife Blessing Mutimbu.
After the delivery, Masocha confirmed the baby’s gender as male and breastfed her son before going to sleep.
The next morning, she was stunned to find a baby girl in the crib instead.
“I was sure I had a son, and the hospital records confirmed it,” Masocha told investigators.
She was the only woman to give birth to a boy at the hospital that day, heightening the confusion around the swap.
Hospital authorities, along with the police, are conducting DNA tests to determine the baby’s true identity.
Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the investigation, emphasizing that they are working to understand how the mix-up happened.
DNA results are expected to clarify the mystery as the probe continues.
