The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Federal Government to reverse the recent hike in petrol prices, stating that the increase is unjustifiable.

The NLC made this demand following the announcement of higher fuel prices by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).

Labour leaders argue that it is illogical for a private company to determine such a critical price point, given its significant impact on citizens’ living standards.

NLC President Joe Ajaero emphasized that the price hike exacerbates economic hardship for Nigerians, many of whom are already struggling under inflation and rising costs of essential goods and services.

The NLC has also expressed concerns about the lack of government consultation with organized labour before implementing the fuel price hike.

The union has urged the government to engage in dialogue with stakeholders to alleviate the financial burden on citizens and maintain economic stability.

The labour movement continues to rally support from various sectors, warning of potential actions if their demands for price reversal are not met promptly.
