Governor Siminalayi Fubara has called on his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, to relinquish any remaining control over Rivers State to allow peace to prevail.

Fubara emphasized that his administration would benefit from Wike’s support in governance, rather than conflict.

Despite opposition from Wike’s allies in both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Fubara stated he had no regrets about conducting the local government elections.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV, the governor stressed that he had made several efforts to maintain peace, including personally begging for reconciliation.

He said he had even had to kneel down to plead with Wike to allow peace reign, but it has yet to yield any positive results.

Fubara urged Wike to let go of any desire to dominate the state’s affairs, saying, “You don’t have to win every fight. Sometimes, it’s better to step aside for the sake of the people.”

He further appealed for unity, noting that Rivers State must be secured for future generations.

Addressing Wike directly, Fubara said, “You once led this state to prosperity; now it’s time to support the current leadership.”
