A 41-year-old Canadian woman, Adrienne Munju, has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for attempting to import a significant quantity of ‘Canadian Loud,’ a potent synthetic cannabis strain.

The arrest occurred during the inward clearance of a KLM flight from Canada last Thursday.

Munju, visiting Nigeria for the first time, was found with 74 parcels of the drug weighing 35.2kg concealed in two of her three bags.

In her confession, she revealed that she had been recruited through an online platform and offered 10,000 Canadian dollars to smuggle the drugs into Lagos.

She claimed she needed the money for her master’s degree in Canada.

In a separate operation at Port Harcourt Ports, Onne, NDLEA intercepted 13.3 million pills of opioids, including Tramadol and codeine syrup, valued at over N9 billion.

These were discovered during a joint examination with customs officials.

Additionally, 50kg of ‘Canadian Loud’ was seized at Tincan Seaport in Lagos.

The NDLEA also made several arrests in Taraba and Lagos, seizing large quantities of drugs and destroying over 9,966kg of cannabis.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the agency’s efforts and success in curbing drug trafficking across Nigeria.
