The medical doctor, Idara Bassey, declared wanted in connection with the death of a 36-year-old woman during a buttock enlargement surgery at a clinic in Lekki Phase 1, has been arrested.
The Punch, quoting the Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, reported that Bassey is currently being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti.
The medical doctor had taken to her heels after her patient, Abiola, died during a buttock enlargement procedure at her clinic on August 26, 2024.
The nurse who administered an injection to the late 36-year-old had earlier been arrested, but the clinic’s owner disappeared and was declared wanted by the police.
The late patient, Abiola had visited the clinic for the buttock enlargement procedure.
On the date set for the procedure, Abiola left her home in the Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, in the Ibeju Lekki area and asked her driver to take her to the clinic
All was said to be going well until a nurse, allegedly acting under Bassey’s orders, administered an injection.
Abiola reportedly became uncomfortable and it got worse, to the point that she became unconscious and was gasping for breath, according to the patient’s driver who reported the matter to the police.
The police later visited the hospital where the nurse who administered the injection was picked up.
The doctor was nowhere to be seen. She was equally not available at her residence.
However, when the publication contacted Hundeyin on Tuesday, he confirmed that the doctor was now with the SCID.
