A Lagos-based young man, Chidi Roy, has reportedly been killed by Fulani herdsmen in Abuja in the course of shooting a skit with some young people.
Chidi’s death was broken by a lady, Loveline Imaobong on X. She was part of the skit that took Chidi to Abuja.
She said they were still on the skit production in the Mpape area of Abuja when the hoodlums attacked them.
She said they fled but Chidi was not lucky as he was the only casualty.
She wrote, “The guy in the picture is lying lifeless in the mortuary, he was attacked by Fulani men. Any lead to his family members would be appreciated. They should please go to Mpape new police station, Berger Quarry. Please repost till it gets to them.”
Her account of the incident is, however, being challenged by netizens, especially those who had relationships with the deceased in his lifetime.
Some questioned why Chidi was the only one attacked out of all the people there.
Imabong in response to that wrote, “No, 6 of us were attacked and he died in the process. We’re currently looking for information about any of his family members.”
Another person, @Dprince_ch responded, “6 of you were attacked by headsmen and he alone died in the process, same you also said the headsmen took y’all phone. And I guess the headsmen flee immediately he dîéd that’s what you’re saying. You also said “whoever knows his family members should direct them to Mpape Police Station.”
Another X user with the identity, @urgly_gramm asserted, “Acting like you don’t even know chidi but you are the one who forcefully took him to the skit scene, chidi stays In one of the best estate in Abuja buh you took him to a very far place and deadly area in mpape bcos hes new in abuja and did not knw anywhere. #Justiceforchidi.”
He further questioned Imabong’s claims, “After Chidi’s death in 24hrs, u got a new phone or what? After Chidi’s death, ur fwend came online saying Chidi was the one who asked for the skit scene.
“Why did you delete your tweet? We saw you at the police station crying, but you said you were not there (in ur tweet) why are you lying?
“Who is with Chidi’s phone because you people said you took off with chidi while everything was dangerous. It happened at day time, why was nobody there to help, why did you made that tweet like it just happened at night?
“You said Chidi was stabbed to death but the police men said they beat him to death, what are you hiding? Why did two of you lock ur acct if both of you is truly innocent?Question I have for @RebeccaIsi nd @Celebritylekpa?”
Greatness(Esan man) Cargo Ag opined, “I never knew a day when I will do this for someone close to me on this street will come. Chidi didn’t deserve to die like this. Chidi was a chilled guy and a very top guy. The Fulani herdsmen story isn’t very clear, it’s fishy. Justice must prevail.”
In a post on Monday, Imabong hinted that Chidi’s relatives in Abuja have reported at the Mpape Police attention.
She said, “His closest relatives in Abuja have reached out and visited the police station. The police are putting in efforts to make sure the perpetrators will be apprehended. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this.”
Friends/loved ones have equally taken to their X handles to tweet condolence messages over Chidi’s heartbreaking death.
@Nachi_sam lamented, “I can’t believe what you will be trending for is your death, kai our friendship was always cat and rat friendship but you had a heart of gold my gee so much potential shouldn’t go like that. #Justiceforchidi.”
@9ja_hoodlum wrote, “We used to be acquainted at some point on here, and in that little time frame, I could tell u was a real one. Never thought a time would come when I would be typing “RIP” over ur picture. Rest peacefully, my friend. Till we meet again.”
Daisy @Adaherselff wrote, “I’m sorry Nigeria happened to you I’m sorry Abuja happened to you Chidi You only left Lagos to Abuja for solace, quite unfortunate it was truncated. Had it been you knew, you would have just remained in Lagos Damn!! This one hurts.”
