“I can’t drink during Ramadan” – says lady who fainted by roadside and was offered malt drink (Video)
A Muslim woman, identified simply as Alhaja, sparked a conversation after she refused an offer of a malt drink when she suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed by the roadside.
She said she was fasting and could not drink anything till nightfall.
The lady was walking when she reportedly slumped and lost consciousness. Passersby rushed to her side and tried what the knew to revive her.
When she came round she was still looking dazed and water was poured on her head by bystanders.
A man then asked for a bottle of malt from a hawker and offered it to the lady, but she declined it.
She told them she was observing the Ramadan fast and as such she could not take anything until the designated hour for breaking the fast.
The Good Samaritans tried to convince her that it was a special situation and that her life was on the line, but the lady remained adamant.
This incident was captured in a video captioned: “She did not drink malt because she is fasting.”
Several videos were shared on social media by a bystander who happened to be present during the incident.
The video has generated a lot of reactions with many saying that when someone’s health was threatened the person could break their fast, but some others argue that the fast could only be broken at the designated time.
