A Nigerian mother has narrated how the staff of a hospital tried to force someone else’s baby girl on her after taking her own baby boy to another mother.
The lady was contributing to a discussion on paternity fraud on a programme, Your View on TVC.
The lady who called in from Lagos said she was delivered of her baby boy via CS in 2003 and she shared the ward with another lady with the same last name ‘Gabriel’ who was also delivered of a baby girl on the same day about the same time.
She said her baby was given to her ward mate and she started breastfeeding him almost immediately.
She said when the hospital staff brought her baby to her, she noticed they brought her a female baby and the scan she did before the delivery established that her baby was male.
She said she told the staff that her baby from the scan was a male and not chubby, but they shouted her down that she was not grateful for the chubby-looking, bouncing baby girl she had.
The lady said her husband was not available at the time, and that the saving grace was her pastor who visited her at the hospital and met her crying.
She narrated that the cleric went to the hospital staff to make trouble with them and that it was only then that someone said ‘Oh, there is another Baby Gabriel somewhere and that maybe a wrong Baby Gabriel was given to her.
According to her, they then retrieved her own baby and gave the other mother her baby girl.
She further narrated that if she had not done a scan prior to the delivery, that was how she would have gone home with a baby that was not hers and a DNA test later would portray her as a cheat who got impregnated from outside her matrimony.
